Guangzhou China, July 25, 2011 - On 5th July 2011, Ministry of Agriculture held a press conference to give more details about the No.1586 Notice issued by Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Environmental Protection, State Administration for Industry and Commerce and State Quality Inspection Administration.
The Notice indicates that 22 high toxic pesticides will be phased out and banned. By the end of 2011, 10 of them will be phased out. The High Toxic Pesticides Elimination and Ban Plan have been approved by the State Council. The Plan includes: stop high toxic pesticide new registration and production license; cancel high toxic pesticides' registration in vegetable, fruits and other crops. Since October 31st, 2011, it has withdrawn or cancelled registrations and production licenses of fenamiphos, fonofos, posfolan-methyl, calcium phosphide, magnesium phosphide, zinc phosphide, cadusafos, coumaphos, terbufos and sulfotep. Since October 31st, 2011, it has stopped the sale and use of 10 high toxic pesticides. And the rest of 12 high toxic pesticides will be replaced by substitutes.
At present, 22 high toxic pesticides are in production and application, and most of them are insecticides. The total output of 22 high toxic pesticides is 50,000 tonnes, taking up 2.5% of total pesticide output in China.
